Case study Marbella Restaurant

Brand development and collateral design for up-market fish restaurant

Marbella is a high class sea-food restaurant based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. They serve Mediterranean style à la carte fish and shell fish. Their primary target customer is westerners and wealthy Arabians.

This project involved developing a new style for their menus and other print items, from scratch. They already had a logo, but other than that there was a clear canvas to work with.

A major element of the design, is the illustrations that feature throughout the various pieces. These show various items from their menus, including sword fish, sea bass, lobster and scallops.

The contrast between these freehand elements with the straight lines and open space used in the rest of the design, bring contrast and balance. They bring a bit of rustic to an otherwise classic and sharp design.

Marbella is an expensive restaurant, they cater towards people who like good food and are willing to pay a little more for it. They wanted their menus and print items to compliment this character, with a high end feel.

They wanted to avoid a stuffy, ‘hoity-toity’ feel however, with the use of texture and recycled paper being a big part of making it feel accessible.
